The use of river hopper barges as facilities for aquaculture: The growth characteristics of carp (Cyprinus carpio) depending on stocking density

Abstract: Carps (Cyprinus carpio) were farmed on a river hopper barge at two stocking densities, 10 and 20 individuals per m3. A comparison of average weights, specific growth rates and weight distributions was performed. The obtained results show that there was no statistically significant difference in any of the parameters studied with regard to stocking density.

Abstract: Sa?etak Krivulje selektivnosti arbuna (Pagellus erythrinus, L. 1758) procjenjivane su na kontinentalnoj podini crnogorskog primorja kori?tenjem dubinskih povla?nih mre?a (ko?a) ?ija je veli?ina oka na saki mre?e iznosila 13.5 mm, 16.1 mm, 17.5 mm, 22 mm i 35 mm, (mjereno od ?vora do ?vora). Rezultati istra?ivanja pokazuju kako su se mre?e, ?ija minimalna veli?ina oka na saki ne smije biti manja od 20 mm, na ovom podru?ju upotrebljavale i sa manjim veli?inama oka od propisane. Rezultati dobiveni istra?ivanjima pokazuju da su mre?e ?ija je veli?ina oka bila ispod 20 mm (zakonom propisana minimalna veli?ina oka) lovile izrazito veliki broj spolno nezrelih jedinki, a 50% du?ina zadr?avanja u mre?i (L50%) za navedene mre?e bila je ispod du?ine kod koje nastupa prva spolna zrelostost kod ove vrste (12 cm). Za mre?e ?ija je veli?ina oka bila ve?a od 20 mm, du?ina L50% bila je ve?a od du?ine pri kojoj nastupa prva spolna zrelost. Provedena istra?ivanja potvr?uju opravdanost reguliranja veli?ine oka na pridnenim povla?nim mre?ama kao jednog od klju?nih ?imbenika za?tite nedoraslih primjeraka, te samim time i osiguravanja dugoro?no odr?ivog iskori?tavanja obnovljivih bogatstava mora

Abstract: Sa?etak Selectivity curves of pandora (Pagellus erythrinus, L. 1758) have been estimated in the areaof the Montenegrin shelf (South Adriatic), for trawls with bar mesh sizes of 13.5, 16.1, 17.5, 22and 35 mm (according to national legislation in Montenegro bar mesh size is measured from knotto knot which is, according to Commission Regulation (EC) No. 129/2003, stretched mesh sizedivided by 2). Although the existing national legislation prescribes that the minimum mesh size ofthe trawl be not smaller than 20 mm, trawls with forbidden mesh sizes are often used in this area.Results obtained showed that meshes smaller than 20 mm (13.5 mm, 16.1 mm, 17.5 mm) catch largenumbers of immature individuals, since the length of 50% retention (L50%) for all these meshes issmaller than the length of fish at first spawning and which is, for Pagellus erythrinus in Montenegrinwaters, ≈ 12 cm. L50% is longer than the average length of the first spawning only for nets withopenings of 22 mm and 35 mm bar mesh size

Abstract: Sa?etak Five anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus, Linnaeus 1758) eggs were caught during an ichthyoplankton survey in Boka Kotorska Bay (south Adriatic Sea) with a PairOVET (modified CalVet) plankton net on December 5th, 2006. Eggs were found at two sampling stations (42°28’30.24” N, 18°44’41.81” E and 42°29’30.23” N, 18°40’41.84” E). It is the third record of anchovy eggs in the winter months in the Adriatic Sea

Abstract: Sa?etak The annual alteration of gonad morphology in sardine (Sardina pilchardus, Walbaum 1792) caught in the period from November 2006 to October 2007 using beach seines in the region of Boka Kotorska Bay (Montenegro, southern Adriatic) was studied. Samples were taken in the middle of each month. Total length of individuals ranged from 8.7 to 14.7 cm and weight ranged from 4.67 to 22.61 g. Their gonads were extracted and weighed, and a piece of gonad tissue was sampled for histological analysis. The length–weight relationship of all sardine specimens was described by the equation: W=0.0059 LT3.0891; (r2 = 0.963). The lowest gonadosomatic index (GSI) values, below 1, were found in June, July and August, corresponding to the state of gonad rest. The GSI increased gradually from September and October and reached its highest value in February, at 5.22 for females and 6.58 for males. After February the GSI started to decrease throughout March (4.5), April (2.4) and May (2.4). In June all gonads had a GSI bellow 1. Although primary oocytes (stage I) were present during all months, their percentage increased from May and was the highest during the summer months (June-September 100%). Mature stage IV oocytes were recorded from November to April, with the highest percentage recorded during January (26.7%). An increase in the percentage of oocytes in the yolk vesicle (II) and yolk (III) stages occurred in October, remaining almost unchanged until May. During the summer months (May – September), only stage I spermatogonia were present in the testicles. In October, spermatocytes (stage II) started to appear, while from November the spermatids (stage III) appeared as well. Spermatozoa (stage IV) appeared in December and reached their maximum level in January and February

Total length of individuals ranged from 6.6 to 12.2 cm, while weight ranged from 1.58 to 11.27 g, Their ovaries were extracted and weighed, and a piece of female gonad tissue was sampled for histological analysis. The length–weight relationship of all anchovy specimens was described by the equation: \(W = 0.0032\) \(L_T^3.2537; (r^2 = 0.9528)\). The lowest GSI values were found in November and remained at low levels until April, which corresponded to the gonad rest stage. The GSI increased gradually during April and May, which coincides with the begining of spawning period. Although primary oocytes (stage I) were present during all months, their percentage increased from October and was the highest during the winter months (November-March 100%). Mature cells, stage IV, were present during April – October period, with highest value in May when they comprised 12.3% of total oocyte number. An increase in the percentage of oocytes in the yolk vesicle (II) and yolk (III) stages occurred in April, remaining almost unchanged until October. Smallest average oocyte size was noticed in period November – February with an average of 59.69 μm, while greatest size was recorded in April 2007, 185.84 μm

Abstract: Sa?etak Kolebanja u raznolikosti ihtioplanktona analizirana su na uzorcima prikupljenim tijekom tri godine u Bokokotorskom zaljevu. Uzorci su prikupljeni pomo?u Calvet (modificirani PairOVET) planktonske mre?e na 18 postaja, od srpnja 2006. do sije?nja 2009. Najbrojnije su bile obitelji vrsta Engraulidae, Sparidae i Labridae. Istra?ivanje pokazuje dominaciju in?una (Engraulis encrasicolus ),kneza (Coris julis) i ?para (Diplodus annularis) tijekom ljeta. Tijekom zime, prevladavaju?e vrste su bile srdela (Sardina pilchardus) i sku?a ( Scomber scombrus), dok su u prolje?e prevladavaju?e vrste bili in?un i ?arag (Diplodus sargus). Mrijest ve?ine vrsta riba u Jadranu po?inje u prolje?e, a progresivni napredak se odvija tijekom proljetnih i ljetnih mjeseci. Dakle, najve?i broj vrsta je prona?en u proljetnim i ljetnim mjesecima, dok je najmanji broj vrsta prona?en tijekom jesenskih i zimskih istra?ivanja. Tijekom istra?ivanja prona?eni su jaja i li?inke 35 vrsta, dok je analiza pokazala zna?ajan stupanj raznolikosti na pojedinim postaja gdje su morske struje vjerojatno najja?e. Raznolikost ihtioplanktonske zajednice je analizirana primjenjuju?i dva indeksa raznolikosti: Shannon indeks (H’) i Simpson indeks (D). Analiza raznolikosti je provedena za svaku od 18 istra?ivanih postaja tijekom trogodi?njih istra?ivanja, dok je utjecaj ekolo?kih ?imbenika na prisutnost nekih vrsta po sezonama bio testirana primjenom CCA analize (Canonical Correspondence Analyses)

Abstract: Sa?etak Variation in the diversity of ichthyoplankton was analyzed from samples collected during threeyear cycle in Boka Kotorska Bay. Samples were collected using Calvet (modified PairOVET) plankton net at 18 stations, from July 2006 through January 2009. Families with most numerous species were Engraulidae, Sparidae and Labridae. Investigation shows dominance of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), Mediterranean rainbow wrasse (Coris julis) and annular sea bream (Diplodus annularis) during the summer. During the winter, dominant species were sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus), while during the spring dominant species were anchovy, annular sea bream and white sea bream (Diplodus sargus). Spawning of most pelagic fish species in Adriatic Sea starts in spring, and progress during spring and summer months. Therefore, the highest number of species was found in these months, while the lowest number of species was during autumn and winter surveys. Eggs and larval stages of 35 species was determined, while the diversity analysis showed a significant degree of diversity in certain stations where the sea currents were probably the strongest. Diversity of ichthyoplankton communities was analyzed applying two diversity indices: Shannon index (H’) and Simpson index (D). Diversity analysis was performed for each of the 18 investigated stations during the tree-year research, while influence of environmental factors on presence of some ichthyoplankton species by seasons was tested with Canonical Correspondence Analyses (CCA)

Abstract: Three localities, representing three distinct coastal areas, were investigated: 1. the mouth of the Sutorina River; 2. the mouth of the Ja ka River; 3. the mouth of the Bojana River (right branch). Regarding the composition of young mullet assemblages, Lisa saliens, Lisa ramada and Lisa aurata were dominant at the first locality; L. aurata and Chelon labrosus at the second; and at the third L. ramada was clearly dominant, Mugil cephalus occupied the subdominant position, while L. aurata was absent. The seasons of the first appearance of migratory fry were October, April, November, October and July, for M. cephalus, C. labrosus, L. ramada, L. aurata and L. saliens, respectively. Migratory periods varied from 2 (C. labrosus) to 7 (L. ramada) months.
